Best Disney Halloween Movies List

This is a “Not-So-Scary” list of the best Halloween holiday movies – according to my family. I threw in some fun activities and snacks because when we do Family Movie Night we add a snack or activity – or both!

  • Hocus Pocus.  If you haven’t heard of this one, you’re clearly not on social media. It’s gotten a lot of attention lately as the sequel released just in time for the season. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimi, and Sarah Jessica Parker are witch sisters who “torment” the locals. It’s as corny as the corn you’ll snack on during the viewing. Need a fun snack – make some “Book Brownies”. They’re super easy and delicious.
  • Hocus Pocus 2. Unpopular opinion alert – I like this better than the original! The witches still look amazing and are as entertaining as ever when they’re accidentally brought back to life by some teen girls. Looking for a snack – check out this amazing charcuterie my friend made!

  • Nightmare Before Christmas. Probably my favorite on the list. It’s a Halloween and Christmas movie (it made both lists). Need a snack and and activity – check out this Haunted House Cookie kit before the show or play Oogie Boogie Operation!
  • Halloweentown. Debbie Reynolds is a grandma who is a witch who teaches her grands about witching and wizardry.  Need an activity – check out this list of party games.
  • Halloweentown II. The sequel – Grandma’s and her grandkids to save “the world”.
  • Halloweentown High. Yes, there are 3, it was a 90’s classic it seems with a cult following. Human world collides with the witches in, you guessed it, high school.
  • Return to Halloweentown. Just for fun, there’s a fourth. In this one is about a granddaughter who heads off to Witch University.

  • Frankenweenie. My 6 year old would probably say this one is the best on the list – also by Tim Burton it’s based loosely on the Frankenstein novel, a kid turns his beloved pet into Frankenweenie. Need a snack – these simple “Frankenstein” jello cups are super fun!

  • Haunted Mansion. There are a couple of versions of this movie from Disney inspired by one of the best rides ever. Despite starring Eddie Murphy, this movie is kid friendly with silly jokes and gags. Need an activity – get the Haunted Mansion game.

  • Muppet’s Haunted Mansion. Gonzo and Pepe (the King prawn) are tricked into an overnight stay at the Haunted Mansion. Let the high jinks ensue! It’s a lot of fun. My 6 year old would like me to warn you of one scary scene, where Gonzo gets a look into the future (SPOILER: it’s not that scary, but he looks old and creepy.)  Need an activity – get this Little Golden Book to go with your watch party.

  • Toy Story of Terror! We had to go watch this one just to tell you about it, and it did not disappoint. Your favorite toys get into some creepy situations. Need and activity – set up all the toys to watch the movie with you, popcorn for everyone.

  • Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie. Pooh and friends face their fears of trick-or-treating and deal with the “scary Gobloon”. Need a snack – honeysticks are super easy to find and a quick treat that you don’t have to share with the “silly old bear”.

  • The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. While Mr. Toad isn’t very “Halloween-like”, Ichabod provides just the right amount of scary for kids. The infamous Headless Horseman appears. Need and activity – make jack-o-lanterns. Bonus points if you can put them on your head!
yes, that's my 6yo

  • Spooky Buddies. Confession – I’m not a fan of the Buddies movies, but my 11 year old insisted that this one make the list. Your littles will love it too. The pups enjoy Howl-o-ween. Need a treat – enjoy some Muddy Buddies Chex Mix, we call it “puppy chow”.

  • Coco. One of the best Pixar movies to date – it’s a gorgeous tale celebrating Day of the Dead, and our lead enters the Land of the Dead to find his hero. Need a snack and activity – this cookie decorating kit is fantastic!

I’m super pumped to learn which movie is your favorite – or maybe it didn’t make it on the list and you should tell me about it. If you watch a movie and do an activity tag The Most Magical Blog on social media!
